I'm Erin, but everyone calls me Red and that's just fine with me.

I'm a certified VLCE and Vegan Nutrition Specialist, public speaker, writer, consultant, kitchen wrangler, problem solver, rabble-rouser, jet-setter, and host of the popular vegan podcast Red Radio. I also co-founded The Seed in 2012, and continue to organize events across North America.

By night I'm a muay Thai practitioner, runner, Bikram Yogini, and tattoo enthusiast. Brooklyn is home, but I hail from Toronto, Canada, and I'm currently on the road.

Try to keep up.

#The Seed: A Vegan Experience

Erin Red & The Seed: A Vegan Experience

First and foremost I want to take a moment to celebrate the rousing success of The Seed: A Vegan Experience's inaugural event.  The show went far and beyond our expectations, and our intention was always to move forward with a second show in December and possibly go on the road in 2013.  On the evening of Sunday, June 24th, I received an email from my co-founder, Harvey Fung, stating that he has decided to sever our professional relationship, and that he and the rest of the team intends to move forward without me.  This obviously comes as a huge shock.

Aside from one individual hired two weeks prior to The Seed’s debut (and staff hired after my departure), there were NO vegan individuals on staff, which is one of the reasons my involvement was so aggressively publicized.  I provided the concept, the name, the mission, the vendors, the participants and the comprehensive knowledge of and connections to the vegan community.  My co-founder merely provided the venue and the funds.  Presently, he and the rest of his team at 82Mercer are in possession of all of my contact lists, vendor lists, show ideas, and far beyond, and they will continue to use them to go forth with The Seed without me on board.

The good news is that I have full intentions of pursuing my original concept and proceeding with my event, however under these circumstances I will need to find a new partner(s) and location, and perhaps under a new name, as I am no longer affiliated with ‘The Seed’ or 82Mercer or HSRCorp, the corporations behind The Seed.

If you are interested or know someone who may be interested in joining me to continue with the the next incarnation of ‘The Seed’, please contact me!  I can’t do this on my own, but rest assured that the show will carry on and our ethics and standards will be higher than ever.  We have sparked something unique and bold, breaking new ground; something that we could spread across the country and beyond.  It is truly exciting and we can’t let it fall to the wayside simply because of a lack of location.  That’s all we lost.  And I’m confident we can find something better.

I ask for your help and advice to keep this movement alive and growing.  If you are interested in learning more or discussing this matter further, I invite you to contact me at anytime.  As always, I am sincerely thankful for the support and encouragement offered in spectacular fashion by the vegan community.  I’m proud to be on board with you all and look forward to reaching new heights.

EP30 Show Notes!

Holy Vegan Cannoli, guys… RED RADIO EPISODE THIRTY!  THIRTY!!!!  I can barely believe it.

So I apologize for this post arriving so late in the game, but there have been some seriously serious developments in the life of Erin Red over the past week or so.  I am not at liberty to divulge just yet, but stay tuned…I will likely make some announcements in EP31 and beyond, and will obviously be blogging along with that.  It shouldn’t come as any surprise to anyone…I’m not one to keep my mouth shut about much, let alone about myself.

I was so thrilled to speak to James Costa in EP30 - he’s such a genuinely wonderful person and his film is going to break tons of ground.  And I think you can tell by the endless gabbing about The Seed: A Vegan Experience that I had such an amazing time!  Let’s get right to the show notes, si?

And of course, Philip Wollen's devastatingly beautiful presentation - the best argument for veganism I have ever heard.

Now, I’m pretty darn sure I’ve forgotten about a TON of stuff I said I’d post…so please, let me know if that’s the case.  My brain is a little fried right now!  And I will be posting a special blog early next week featuring my photos from The Seed - check back!

EP31 is coming up soon - get ready for the awesome!

EP30: ‘Lunch Hour’ Director James Costa & a Massive Recap of The Seed!

It’s good to be back, y’all!  I mean it, it does!  Obviously I missed you - otherwise I wouldn’t have rambled on for hours in Episode Thirty of Red Radio.  Seriously, I just started gabbing and…next thing I knew…longest show ever.  Maybe this makes you super happy; maybe it sincerely irritates you.  In either case, it’s not like it happens all that often so COOL IT!

How completely fantastic is James Costa? The answer is ENTIRELY COMPLETELY FANTASTIC.  He was gracious enough to chat with me while staying at (vegan paradise) The Wynn in Las Vegas, promoting his epic documentary Lunch Hour.  Have you watched the trailer yet?  You totally should.

Red Radio returns after a week’s hiatus with an extended Episode Thirty!  First off, Erin Red has the pleasure of chatting with director and advocate James Costa about his groundbreaking new film, Lunch Hour, and his feelings on activism, veganism, and the future of health in the US. Next up, an enthusiastic journey through the whirlwind weekend that was The Seed: A Vegan Experience!  Erin Red shares every delicious detail and unapologetically brag about her brand new Vitamix!  Plus a very special Compassionate Clip of the Week – what a jam packed episode!!!  Please consider supporting Red Radio by visiting erinred.com and clicking the DONATE button, and subscribe to Red Radio on iTunes today!  If you love what you hear, leave a glowing review, or drop Erin Red a line at erinredradio@gmail.com.  You can also read her blog at erinred.tumblr.com, and find her on Facebook and Twitter @erinred.

EP29 Show Notes!

This is how I know I’m pretty much busier than ever:  I opened this page to start writing my blog post over four hours ago.  Every once in a while I’d click back to see how far along I was (blank page every time) and then forget about it entirely when something else came up.

Seriously, it just happened again.  There was a 30 minute break between the last paragraph and this one.

And another 45 minutes between these two.  FOCUS, RED.  FOCUS!

…Ok, now it’s about 48 hours since I started this blog post, and I’m even more zombie-fied than I was in the first place.  Let’s just get to these show notes before I melt into my computer, yes?

EP28: An EPIC Chat with Vegan Superman Rich Roll!

Yeah, totally NBD.  Just that I spoke to ultra-endurance athlete Rich Roll for Episode Twenty Eight of Red Radio IS ALL.

Yeah, kids - you read right!  Rich was kind enough to take some time out to chat with me about his journey to veganism, his struggle with alcoholism, finding his path to wellness, and his plant-based athletic adventures.  I really can’t wait to read his recently released book, Finding Ultra - the reviews are already outstanding and the subject matter, let’s face it, is RIGHT up my alley.  I’ll have to pick up a copy and have Rich sign it when I see him in TWO WEEKS at The Seed: A Vegan Experience, where he’ll be speaking about Plant Power Performance on Saturday, June 16th at 10:15am.  How exciting is THAT!?

Aside from that I introduce my latest furry family member, as well as wax poetic about my hero, Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, and her game-changing podcast, Vegetarian Food For Thought.  I’m a total fangirl; deal with it.

Erin Red rocks out with ultra-endurance athlete, entertainment lawyer, husband, father and one of the “25 Fittest Guys in the World” Rich Roll in Red Radio Episode Twenty Eight!  Rich discusses his path to veganism and the transformation that followed, the release of his book, Finding Ultra, and his truly remarkable athletic achievements.  Plus, we’re introduced to the newest member of Erin Red’s furry little family and hear about what’s been motivating her advocacy lately.  A chock-full episode for your listening pleasure!

EP27: A Conversation with Nargus; Vegan Athlete, Artist & Inspiration

I’m pretty pumped to have had the opportunity to chat with the lovely Nargus Harounzadeh for Red Radio Episode Twenty-Seven.  Aside from the pure wow-factor, I think we can all agree that the word ‘inspiring’ can be used enthusiastically in this case - I can’t wait to talk to her about my own fitness/nutrition goals!  And I’m SO EXCITED to see what she has in store for her live art exhibit at The Seed in a few weeks!  EEE!

And yeah, I got a little out of line with my rant on the human embarrassment that was the ‘Great’ GoogaMooga Festival.  I admit it.  And I don’t regret it.  (Also: Really?  A cartoon pig wearing sunglasses in the logo?  How far up asses do heads even go?)

Check it out!

In Episode Twenty-Seven, Erin Red interviews vegan artist, athlete, teacher, scholar and all-around superwoman Nargus Harounzedeh about her journey to veganism, her athletic and artistic prowess, and the unbelievable accident that changed her life forever.  Plus, Nargus and Red discuss her upcoming live art exhibit at The Seed: A Vegan Experience in June!  And the Steamed Veggies Segment makes a particularly snarky return as Erin Red waxes poetic about Brooklyn’s Googamooga Festival.  Remember:  Red Radio is 100% listener supported!  Please consider donating by visiting Erin Red and Red Radio at erinred.com and clicking the DONATE button!  You can also read her blog at erinred.tumblr.com, and find her on Facebook and Twitter @erinred.

EP23: The Return of Fresh Veggies, with Valentina!

Back by popular demand, y’all! After way too long of a hiatus, I’ve resurrected my infamous Fresh Veggies segment on Red Radio Episode Twenty-Four.  Valentina was SO much fun and I got to learn about vegan Miami!

Hmm…JetBlue flies there for pretty cheap, don’t they…?

I also fill everyone in on the latest at The Seed: A Vegan Experience, and feature one of our MAJOR speakers in the Compassionate Clip of the Week - none other than Kathy Freston!  Yanno, I think I’m warming up to the lady.

Erin Red brings back her wildly popular Fresh Veggies Segment in Episode Twenty-Four, welcoming longtime listener and Red Radio Rockstar Valentina from Miami (by way of Colombia)!  Hear about Valentina’s journey to veganism, her favorite vegan food truck in Miami, and that one time her boyfriend accidentally fed her dairy ice cream…ew!  In this episode’s Compassionate Clip of the Week, Erin Red features another world-renowned speaker from The Seed: A Vegan Experience – Kathy Freston!  Remember:  Red Radio is 100% listener supported!  Please consider donating by visiting Erin Red and Red Radio at erinred.com and clicking the DONATE button!  You can also read her blog at erinred.tumblr.com, and find her on Facebook and Twitter @erinred.
